Class of 2024: RaeLynn

Meet RaeLynn, a graduating senior from Early College High School in Charleston.

RaeLynn has embraced her strengths, overcome obstacles, and achieved remarkable academic success, earning an internship this summer with Boeing and a place at the University of South Carolina this fall, where she will pursue a degree in Aerospace Engineering.

RaeLynn’s journey with Communities In Schools began in third grade at Pepperhill Elementary, where she was connected to Ms. Kerness, a site coordinator who created a space where she felt safe, respected, and valued. Her CIS journey continued through middle school at Northwoods with Ms. Bennett, and finally, throughout high school at Early College with Mr. Brown.

“Coach Brown took me under his wing and became somebody I trust, look up to, and can always count on,” says RaeLynn. “I became a Dean’s list student because of Coach Brown, his guidance, and the resources CIS connected me to. CIS is a fantastic and opportunity-filled program that gives students like me resources, support, and whatever else is needed. I am truly honored and blessed to be a part of it.”

In addition to the relationships she built with site coordinators, RaeLynn was also matched with mentors along the way. Her current mentor, Mrs. Aaron, has provided unwavering support, guidance, and connections that have helped RaeLynn reach her goals. “Mentors have played a crucial part in my past, present, and future success,” said RaeLynn.

As RaeLynn embarks on this new chapter, we are proud to have played a supporting role in her journey. Her story is a testament to the power of relationships rooted in care, support, and partnership.

As we celebrate RaeLynn’s achievements, we invite you to join us in ensuring that every student has the support they need to thrive in school and beyond.
