Charleston, S.C. – September 23, 2024 – Communities In Schools® (CIS®), the national organization that works inside schools, empowering students to achieve in school and succeed in life, announced the recipients of its annual All In for Students Awards. CIS of South Carolina alumna and Haut Gap Middle School Site Coordinator Miracle Mozzee was honored by the Communities In Schools National Office as this year’s Distinguished Service Alumni award recipient.

“Miracle exemplifies what it means to give back. She knows firsthand the power of connection, support, and belief, and she channels that into her daily work with students. She’s a true advocate for those she serves.” said Lee McLeod, Miracle’s former Site Coordinator and the person who nominated her for the award. “I had no idea that the little girl sitting in front of me asking to join my girl’s group would become the person I look up to in life.”

Miracle joined the CIS program as a 7th grader and continued to receive support throughout high school. Today, she is a dedicated Site Coordinator at Haut Gap Middle School in Charleston, guiding students to overcome challenges and achieve their goals – just as she once did. In addition to serving students, Miracle has gone beyond the classroom by founding her own nonprofit, Charles House, and advocating for tenants’ rights in the Charleston area. She’s made headlines for her impactful work in the community.

“Helping people, pouring into them, making them feel good, just making some type of change – that’s what CIS is all about,” shared Miracle Mozzee. “My experience as a case-managed student inspired me to become a Site Coordinator. I want to be there for my students, just like CIS was there for me.”

The All In for Students Awards, established in 2007, honors the exemplary dedication of CIS staff, educators, community partners, and CIS alums who go all in for students, empowering them to stay in school, graduate, and pursue brighter futures. The awards ceremony took place in Dallas, Texas, in conjunction with the Communities In Schools Leadership Town Hall.
