Like many kids that CISSC works with throughout the state of South Carolina, Daquan needed direction and support to allow his natural abilities to flourish. Daquan was struggling academically, and after needing to repeat his freshman year in high school, he lacked motivation and was not sure where to turn. He did not have clear-cut goals that would provide a foundation for his success.
That all changed when he met Mr. José, the CISSC Site Coordinator. Mr. José took Daqaun under his wing, and started with an initial Basic Needs Assessment completed in partnership with Daquan’s grandmother. He also performed a Four S interview to help identify Daquan’s Sparks, Strengths, Struggles, and Supports. Together, they set measurable and attainable goals for Daquan to focus on one step at a time, and designed supports that will help lead Daquan to a bright future based on his own personal aspirations and dreams. Daquan joined an afterschool program, and openly reaches out to his teachers when he needs help with his assignments.
“It is great to see the relationship between Daquan and Mr. José, celebrating every victory together.”
Through the support of CISSC, Daquan has moved on to the next grade level, and that is only the beginning of his success. It is a testament to the time and effort to care and listen to kids in need. Now, Daquan checks in with Mr. José on every in-person school day, working together on any challenges ahead and adjusting action plans as needed. Daquan joined an afterschool program, and openly reaches out to his teachers when he needs help with his assignments.
Daquan is looking forward to high school graduation and aspires to become an engineer. We believe in Daqaun, he believes in himself, and we are confident he will reach his life goals!
